WEP-TOGO stood out at COP29, held this year in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024, by playing an active role in the negotiations and organising several events. The organisation highlighted the importance of women's resilience to climate change and called for stronger action to promote sustainable natural resource management.

At the heart of the COP29 events, WEP-TOGO participated in numerous side events, meetings with the women's group and B2B meetings. These various actions enabled the organisation to:

  • Raise awareness of the importance of climate information: WEP-TOGO organised a side event at the Togo pavilion, focusing on climate risk prevention through early warning climate information specifically targeted at women.

  • Share its expertise: The organisation participated in two panel discussions, one on satellite data on degraded landscapes and the other on water and peace, highlighting the crucial role of women in sustainable water management.

  • Strengthening partnerships: WEP-TOGO organised B2B meetings with eight potential partners, opening up new opportunities for collaboration to strengthen its impact on the ground at the local and national levels.

A strong call to support women

At the Africa Pavilion, WEP-TOGO made an urgent appeal to technical and financial partners to provide increased support to women and women's organisations. The aim is to enable these key players to contribute more effectively to integrated water resource management and the fight against climate change.
